La testa della famiglia

Bronze · 2009

This intimate and reflective sculpture is the last work of the Rolling Heads series and holds Metzler's familial and domestic soul. Unlike other more ironic or polemical works, here the artist turns his gaze toward himself and his closest world. At the centre of the work, in a prominent position, rises a pyramidal form: it is the white marble fountain located between Metzler's house and studio here in Iesa, a real and symbolic presence. Around this architecture, on the summit of a sculpted head, moves a family in miniature: Metzler himself, beside his wife Claudia and their sons Lorenzo Emanuele and Damiano. The work seems to suggest that family is the dominant thought in the artist's mind. The head becomes the landscape of memory and affection.
