Sogno Industriale

In this iron work, Metzler gives shape to a dream, or perhaps a nightmare, of the industrial age. It is the dream of the worker of the 1970s, immersed in a context of mechanical labour, repetition, and the weight of the factories.
The heads become symbols: a sickle and a hammer, tools of agricultural and industrial work, but also ideological icons. United, they do not speak to each other. There is no dialogue, only a rigid, inevitable connection. Perhaps the idea of a collective rather than individual dream, in which the identity of the single worker merges, or is lost, in the machinery of production.
Iron, cold and heavy, underlines this tension. There is no space for the organic, for the fragile. It is a work that speaks of utopias, but also of dehumanisation. An industrial dream, yes, but also a silent critique, hidden in the very form of the metal.
