Rolling Head 1 (Modello per Torre del Lago Puccini)

Rolling Head 1 is the first example of one of the most emblematic series of Kurt Laurenz Metzler's mature phase, that of the Rolling Heads. This sculptural cycle was born after a trip to Mexico in the early 2000s, during which the artist was deeply struck by the iconography of pre-Columbian temples, in particular by a mural depicting a sleeping head from which forms and dreams emerged in relief. In this bronze model, Metzler crystallises a theatrical concept: a monumental head, serving both as base and as imaginative generator, supports above it a scene animated by musicians and performers. The project was conceived for the Festival Pucciniano in Torre del Lago, where the sculpture would have stood on the lake's water as a floating stage.

Rolling Head 1 rappresenta il primo esemplare di una delle serie più emblematiche della fase matura di Kurt Laurenz Metzler, quella delle Teste Rotolanti (Rolling Heads). Questo ciclo scultoreo nasce in seguito a un viaggio in Messico intrapreso dall'artista nei primi anni 2000, durante il quale rimane profondamente colpito dall'iconografia dei templi precolombiani, in particolare da un murale che raffigurava una testa dormiente da cui si generavano forme e sogni in rilievo. In questo modello in bronzo, Metzler cristallizza un concetto teatrale: una testa monumentale, che funge da base e al tempo stesso da generatrice immaginifica, sorregge sopra di sé una scena animata da musicisti e performer. Il progetto era per il Festival Pucciniano a Torre del Lago, sul lago come piattaforma scenica galleggiante.

Rolling Head 1 ist das erste Exemplar einer der emblematischsten Serien von Metzlers reifer Phase, derjenigen der Rolling Heads, der rollenden Köpfe. Dieser Skulpturzyklus entsteht nach einer Reise nach Mexiko in den frühen 2000er-Jahren, bei der der Künstler tief von der Ikonographie der präkolumbischen Tempel beeindruckt war, insbesondere von einem Wandbild, das einen schlafenden Kopf zeigte, aus dem sich Formen und Träume in Reliefs ergaben. In diesem Bronzemodell kristallisiert Metzler ein theatralisches Konzept: ein monumentaler Kopf, der gleichzeitig Sockel und imaginäre Bildgeneratorin ist, trägt eine belebte Szene mit Musikern und Performern. Das Projekt war für das Festival Pucciniano in Torre del Lago geplant, wo die Skulptur in monumentaler Grösse auf dem Wasser des Sees als schwimmende Bühnenplattform stehen sollte.
