Il Politico
Il Politico is one of Metzler's first monumental abstract works in corten steel. Like many of his pieces, it is the result of observation, in particular of the gestures of the world's politicians. Metzler captures their movement and ironically breaks it down.
The arms move with the wind and recall the typical gestures of the figure named in the title. When there is no wind, the visitor is invited to give the left arm a gentle push. The sculpture becomes a machine that imitates the political spectacle, rich in gesture but empty, driven by the wind.
Il Politico è una delle prime opere monumentali astratte realizzate da Metzler in ferro corten. Anche quest'opera è frutto dell'osservazione, nel particolare delle gestualità dei politici del mondo. Metzler ne coglie il movimento. In forma ironica lo scompone e lo mobilizza.
Le braccia si muovono con il vento e ricordano le gestualità tipiche del personaggio indicato nel titolo dell'opera. In mancanza di vento il visitatore è invitato a dare una piccola spinta al braccio sinistro. Così la scultura diventa una macchina che imita lo spettacolo politico, ricca di gesti ma vuota, mossa dal vento.
Il Politico zählt zu den ersten monumentalen abstrakten Werken Metzlers in Cortenstahl. Auch dieses Werk ist Frucht der Beobachtung, im Besonderen der Gestik der Politiker dieser Welt. Metzler greift ihre Bewegung auf und zerlegt sie ironisch in ihre Bestandteile.
Die Arme bewegen sich mit dem Wind und erinnern an die typischen Gesten der Figur, die der Werktitel benennt. Bei Windstille ist der Besucher eingeladen, dem linken Arm einen sanften Stoss zu geben. So wird die Skulptur zu einer Maschine, die das politische Spektakel imitiert: gestenreich, aber leer, vom Wind getrieben.
