Geroglifici

Perhaps one of the key works in Metzler's early career. Right at the beginning of his path he places the form of the legs at the centre of his interest, presenting a bronze block composed of hieroglyphs. The influence of Egypt and the fascination this culture exerted on him is strongly felt. This block becomes programmatic for everything that follows: Metzler's unmistakable leg-forms are already there. The work was made during his training at the Kunstgewerbeschule Zurich under Karl Schmid, teacher of fellow artists H.R. Giger and Oliviero Toscani, both lifelong friends.

Si tratta forse di una delle opere chiave nel percorso di Metzler, che proprio all'inizio della sua carriera pone al centro del proprio interesse le forme delle gambe, presentando un blocco bronzeo composto da geroglifici. Forte dunque anche l'influenza egizia e il fascino che questa cultura gli ha trasmesso. Questo blocco diventa programmatico avendo Metzler lavorato sul suo aspetto di riconoscibilità, in particolar modo sulle forme delle gambe già ritrovabili in questo lavoro giovanile, realizzato durante il periodo di formazione alla Kunstgewerbeschule di Zurigo sotto l'artista Karl Schmid, docente anche di artisti colleghi come HR Giger e Oliviero Toscani, due amici che Metzler ha frequentato fino alla fine della sua vita.

Eines der Schlüsselwerke im Frühwerk Metzlers. Hier rückt er bereits am Anfang seiner Karriere die Form der Beine ins Zentrum seines Interesses und präsentiert einen Bronzeblock aus Hieroglyphen. Stark spürbar ist der Einfluss Ägyptens und die Faszination, die diese Kultur auf ihn ausübte. Der Block wird programmatisch für sein gesamtes späteres Schaffen: Metzlers unverkennbare Beinformen sind hier bereits angelegt. Das Werk entstand während seiner Ausbildung an der Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich unter Karl Schmid, Lehrer auch von Künstlerkollegen wie H.R. Giger und Oliviero Toscani, die Metzler bis zum Lebensende verbunden blieben.
