Modello per Fontana a Bad Ragaz

French limestone · 2000

This small but dense sculpture is a model, a preparatory study for a public fountain designed for Bad Ragaz, Switzerland. The work is made of French limestone, a material that lends softness to the composition's rigorous geometry. The form is compact, architectural, almost urbanistic: it evokes a wall structure, a small settlement, or perhaps an abstract architecture. The solids and voids, the interlocking volumes and the carved surfaces suggest a dialogue with water, the central element in the final version of the fountain. One can sense how the water flows, gathers, bounces between the broken lines and soft curves of the model. This work reflects the artist's interest in organic architecture and the integration of art into public space.
