La donna dai seni a punta

Bronze · 1986

This bronze sculpture has become one of Metzler's most iconic works. Not only for its bold form, but also for the powerful symbolic message it conveys. The breast, traditionally associated with nurture and sensuality, here transforms into a weapon of defence. A reinterpretation of the female body as a structure of power. In those same years, Jean Paul Gaultier was launching his famous cone-bra bustier worn by Madonna. Gaultier himself was a collector of this work. Metzler anticipates, or visually accompanies, a new feminine consciousness: woman is no longer only an object of desire, but an active, strong, untamed subject. A feminist icon, using sensuality as a tool of affirmation, not submission. A body that does not retreat, but advances.
